In-Mold: Light. Seamless. Premium.

In-Mold bonds the outer shell of a helmet and the EPS inner shell into a solid, seamless unit during the foaming process. The result is a very light helmet with a high safety reserve and a clean design without visible transitions.

At KED, In-Mold stands for what KED calls Seamless Design: a closed helmet contour that not only looks good but is structurally convincing.

What is In-Mold?

  • How the process works

The prefabricated outer shell is placed in the manufacturing mould. When the EPS inner shell is foamed, the two parts bond permanently. Two components become one solid, inseparable unit with high dimensional accuracy.

  • What this means for the helmet

In-Mold makes the helmet lighter because no additional connecting elements are needed. The construction stays compact, the contour clean. And because both layers are firmly bonded together, the result is a composite with excellent safety reserves.

The benefits in everyday life

  • Low weight

In-Mold helmets are light. You notice this immediately on daily rides, on longer tours and when frequently putting the helmet on and taking it off.

  • Clean look

Seamless Design means: no visible transitions, no distracting edges. The helmet looks high-quality and clean.

  • High safety reserves

The seamless bond between the layers makes the helmet resistant. KED explicitly describes the In-Mold bond as high-strength.

What is In-Mold technology?

A manufacturing process in which the outer shell and the EPS inner shell are firmly bonded together. The result is a seamless, lightweight and high-quality helmet construction.

What does Seamless Design mean at KED?

No visible transitions between the components. The outer shell and the EPS inner shell are fused into one solid unit.

Which KED helmets have In-Mold?

Pedalon, Mitro UE-1, Mitro UE Collection 25/26, Reach DT-1, Reach AR-1, Reach DT-1 Bestzeit, Embrace MU-1, Embrace Urban UF-1, Embrace Jr., Pector ME-1, POP, POP II, POP II Lite, Dyno and Meggy Spark.

What is the difference between In-Mold and maxSHELL®?

In-Mold is created during the foaming process for a seamless, very lightweight result. maxSHELL® joins both parts by bonding for a robust, elastic structure.

Is In-Mold the same as Mips®?

No. In-Mold is a construction technology. Mips® is a protection system against rotational forces in angled impacts.
