In a bike accident, the head almost never hits at a perfect 90° angle. The body moves forward, the head keeps turning – the result is an oblique impact that generates rotational forces in addition to the direct impact energy. These forces twist the brain inside the skull and can cause concussions, hematomas, or more serious injuries.

4TEX comfort was developed to address exactly this problem. KED uses the technology in the Pedalon – the urban e-bike helmet for daily city traffic.

4TEX comfort is a rotational protection technology integrated as an additional protective layer inside the helmet. In an angled impact, this layer yields in a controlled way: the helmet moves minimally while the head underneath rotates less. The dangerous rotational forces are absorbed and redirected before they reach the brain.

The system works invisibly. No extra weight, no visible add-on parts, no compromise in wearing comfort – 4TEX comfort works in the background.

4TEX comfort protects against oblique impacts in general – regardless of whether you ride an e-bike, a mountain bike or a regular city bike. KED currently uses 4TEX comfort in the Pedalon because this helmet is designed for a user profile that rides in city traffic every day. This doesn't mean that 4TEX comfort is a technology exclusive to e-bikes or that other KED e-bike helmets need the same system – other models such as the Mitro UE-1 or Pector ME-1 rely on Mips® for rotational protection.
