German School Championship MTB 24: Exciting competitions & fun in Dahlenrode

Pure adrenaline, squealing tires and lots of team spirit: the event took place in Dahlenrode on September 16th and 17th 6th German School Championship MTB took place - an event that brought together students from all over Germany and promoted enthusiasm for cycling.

Close 300 students from 43 schools made their way to Dahlenrode to pedal on site. The participants came from various federal states, including Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Berlin. Unfortunately, the team from the Free Fröbel School Rudolstadt from Thuringia had to miss out due to illness - keep your head up, put your helmet on, you'll be there again next year! 

As hosts and supporters, the Göttingen City Sports Association and the Tuspo Weende association ensured that the young cyclists were optimally looked after.

Day 1 of the German School Championships 

The first day started with a course that was certainly tough. Anyone who thought cycling was easy up to that point was proven wrong. A challenging approach to a wooden wall required not only courage, but also perfect balance. Standstill for three seconds and then continue without stopping? Phew, that made some people sweat! And as if that wasn't enough, a cone also had to be picked up and placed back down perfectly. All of this required perfect timing, strength and balance. 

But mountain biking is more than just sport - it's a passion. Therefore, all participants were happy about the course, regardless of how well they did. 

Before cycling continued on the second day, there was a sociable and delicious pasta party in the evening. Here we not only filled up on carbohydrates, but also chatted and shared ideas. Teachers and students from different schools came together, got to know each other and exchanged tips for cycling together. 

Day 2: the finale 

The second day brought the big finale. The teams competed in different competition classes, each with its own challenge. But before they set off on the track, the participants were able to relax on the pump track Scool warm up. A brilliant idea to calm your nerves and get into the flow.

In order to stay in the flow, the technical details must of course be right. Good thing that Connex professionals and AXA were on site. If the chain broke or the brakes squeaked, they were there to fix it. 

KED helmets for the biggest team! 

What's new this year? The school group with the most participants received a prize for the first time, ten KED helmets, to be precise. We are pleased that we were able to support the students with our products and motivate them to drive safely. Because with our helmets we make a clear statement for Safety and style on the bike.

This Willy Brandt High School in Oer-Erkenschwick won the helmet prize. Arriving with the largest team, they showed that quantity and quality can go hand in hand. 

In addition to the sporting competition, there was another highlight in the context of promoting cycling: the honoring of the most bike-friendly school in Germany. This was done in front of an impressive audience of around 400 guests Pascal High School in Grevenbroich for his outstanding commitment. Through numerous bicycle excursions, the campaign "Car free to school day", a bicycle workshop working group, and the integration of sustainable mobility into the curriculum earned the high school the prize. 

The school organized the honor as part of the “Pascal Evening” – an annual event to recognize particularly committed students. The supporting program included singing performances and reports on school events. 

Dirk Niermann from ACTION BICYCLE presented the prize. This award once again underlines how schools can actively contribute to promoting cycling and sustainable mobility.

Into the future on two wheels! 

The German School MTB Championship was more than just a competition. It was a celebration of cycling, a meeting of young bikersCommunity and proof that school can be really cool. The future of school sports is on two wheels!

Dahlenrode 2024 was a huge success. Friendships were made, boundaries were overcome and a lot of fun was had. And the best part? With every pedal stroke the anticipation for the next year grows. So, dear MTB fans: keep your bikes in good shape and your helmets handy. The next school championship is coming – and it will be even cooler, even faster and even more versatile than ever before!
